HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – Hillsdale College was placed on lockdown at around noon on Wednesday as a precautionary measure after a former student was said to be a threat.
The former student was reportedly from Branch County.
Coldwater Police located the young man just after 2:00pm driving his 2005 Ford Ranger on Bishop Avenue near Grand and took him into custody.
Police say no weapons were found in his vehicle.
It’s unclear what kind of threats were made that brought about the lockdown as no police statements have been issued.
Hillsdale Community Schools went to what was called a soft lockdown for about an hour.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police were among the law enforcement agencies who were involved in the search for the former student.
Modern technology helped in the apprehension as authorities were able to ping his cell phone while he was in Branch County.
Numerous police officers were on the Hillsdale College campus during the early afternoon hours.
The college asked everybody to stay inside and behind locked doors while the search was being conducted.
