COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The name of Branch County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Winter will be added to the National Peace Officers Memorial Wall during the week of May 13, 2017 in Washington, D.C..
Winter’s family will be escorted by Branch County Sheriff John Pollack during the ceremony.
Winter’s name was added to the Michigan Fallen Hero’s Memorial in Pontiac September 11, 2016. There are over 800 names of Michigan’s fallen firefighters and law enforcement officers that are etched on ten granite tablets.
The names go all the way back to 1864. They include Branch County Sheriff George Ralston, who was shot and killed in 1917.
Winter died from injuries he suffered when he was thrown from his horse while providing security during last year’s Quincy Memorial Day Parade.
