Larry L. Downs, 81, of Coldwater passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025 at The Laurels of Coldwater.
A service will be held Friday, March 7, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00-12:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. Interment will follow the service at Sorter Cemetery.
Larry was born July 29, 1943, to Ernest Gerald and Lorean (Graham) Downs in Dunkirk, IN.
He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1961. He continued his education and love for basketball at Albion College, graduating in 1966 with his bachelor’s degree.
During his time at Albion, as a four-year starter and the captain and co-captain for 2 seasons of basketball, he was awarded the all-MIAA first team status. To this day he still holds the school record for the highest scoring average in a season, setting the record in the 1964-65 season.
Larry married Judith Fischer September 5, 1986 in Coldwater.
He was the owner and operator of Identity Marketing, working alongside his wife for over 10 years until his retirement in 2008.
Mr. Downs was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Coldwater Rotary Club and was very active with Tibbits.
Larry was not only an avid fisherman but was also an expert in fly tying. He enjoyed golf, basketball, and watching his grandkids play sports.
Larry is survived by his children Seth Downs of Coldwater, Amy (William) Garcia of Grand Ledge, Justin Downs of Coldwater, Aaron (Monica) Downs of Coldwater, Erika Downs of Syracuse, NY; his grandchildren Nathan (Gayle) Garcia, Loren (Joshua) Dutton, Brandon Downs, Nicholas Downs, Austin Downs, Bo (Kim) Quimby, Byron Klingerman, Rich (Ashley) Field; and 9 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Judith Downs, Larry was preceded in death by his brother Dennis Downs and his stepson JR Quimby.
Memorials may be directed to the Animal Aid of Branch County.
