Jackson, MI (WTVB)- Consumers Energy says they need more line workers. New hires spend eleven weeks at their training center in Marshall and then four years as an apprentice.
Union apprenticeship administrator and line worker Scott Shoemaker says they need to be mentally tough, understand their objectives, and follow directions to accomplish the task. The utility says crews worked 16-hour shifts to respond to the recent ice storm in northern Michigan as well as numerous power outages caused by severe weather in the southern part of the state including Branch and surrounding counties.
