COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Sunday a license plate reader operated by the Coldwater Police Department identified a Kia reported stolen out of Indiana.
Local law enforcement initiated a coordinated search, with Branch County Sheriff’s Office deputies ultimately locating the vehicle in a parking lot on Willowbrook Road.
The Sheriff’s Office says to mitigate the risk of a pursuit and ensure public safety, deputies conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot. The stolen vehicle was successfully recovered without incident. Three individuals were taken into custody and lodged at the Branch County Jail.
All face charges related to the possession of methamphetamine, and one is additionally charged with possession of stolen property.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Office says it extends its appreciation to the Coldwater Police Department and the Michigan State Police for their assistance in the operation.
Sheriff Fred Blankenship says the incident “highlights the power of technology and the importance of interagency cooperation in protecting our communities and enhancing public safety.”
