BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater split their Interstate 8 doubleheader at Pennfield, dropping the opener 6-5 in 10 innings and getting a 5-0 shutout in the nightcap.
In the first game, the Panthers brought home the game-winning run in the bottom of the tenth on a one-out RBI single by Caden Overby off Cardinal reliever Dayton Ennis. Offensively, Owen Tappenden singled and doubled, Ennis had two singles, and Finn Hanson drove in two runs.
Tappenden threw a six-inning two-hit shutout in the second game with seven strikeouts. He, Rylan Edwards, and Luke Stout had two hits apiece, while Royale Fleming had an RBI double.
Coldwater is now 4-8 overall, 2-2 in the Interstate 8. They will welcome Hastings to Lowe Field on Thursday. Coverage on WTVB will join the doubleheader in progress Thursday at 5:20 p.m.
Bronson 11, Union City 9
Bronson 11, Union City 9 (5 innings)
UNION CITY, MI – Bronson remained undefeated on the season at 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Big 8 as they won both halves of a doubleheader at cross-county rival Union City by identical 11-9 scores. Our Jim Measel was there at Alumni Field and wrote this recap.
The Chargers fell to 7-4 overall, 2-2 in the Big 8, and will visit Centreville on Thursday. The Vikings play at Fremont on Friday.
Quincy 16, Stockbridge 1 (5 innings)
Quincy 7, Stockbridge 1
STOCKBRIDGE, MI – Quincy rode the arms of pitchers Brennen Allman and Mason Graves to a pair of Big 8 victories at Stockbridge, 16-1 and 7-1.
Allman threw a five-inning complete game in the opener, striking out six while allowing three hits. Alex Barry singled and doubled and drove in three runs, while Graves had four RBIs on his two hits. Ryan Kempter and Jimmy Maynard also had two hits apiece.
Graves had 12 strikeouts in the nightcap as he allowed four Panther hits. He drove in two runs along with Barry and Maynard. Kempter had two hits.
The Orioles improved to 6-6 overall, 4-2 in the Big 8, and will host former conference rival Homer on Thursday.
