COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A bid of over $1,427,000 for the second part of the North Clay Street utility and road improvement project was approved by the Coldwater City Council on Monday night.
Nashville Construction Company of Nashville, Michigan provided the low bid for the project which will cover about a four block section of North Clay between Waterman and Harris. It will include improvements to the City’s storm water, water, wastewater, road and sidewalk infrastructure.
Nashville Construction is an MDOT preapproved contractor and received a positive recommendation from the City of Marshall in regard to past road and utility work.
Their bid was over $75,000 lower than the one other bid received from Parrish Excavating.
The City has a local preference provision in its purchasing policy if a local bidder falls within five percent of the low bid but the City’s engineering consultant and City staff say they had no reason not to recommend the low bidder in this case.
