COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Respiratory Therapist Jamie Garland (pictured) became the first ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital employee to receive the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine on Monday morning.
Garland has worked at the hospital for fifteen years.
“I am honored to be the first to receive the vaccine. It is a big step in stopping this illness and preventing more people from becoming sick. I have cared for patients who had COVID-19 and it is difficult to watch them struggle. This gives me hope,” Garland said after receiving his vaccination.
A total of 70 hospital employees were vaccinated on the first day. All employees that received their vaccine will receive a second dose in four weeks.
The distribution of the vaccine is in the early vaccination phase, with supplies being limited.
As the number of available doses increases, COVID-19 vaccines will be available to all Michigan residents who choose to be vaccinated.
Vaccinations are being administered to essential healthcare workers and personnel caring for COVID-19 patients.
