BRONSON, MI (WTVB) -A Bronson firefighter will be honored on Saturday for his half century of service to the community.
Ken Stutzman became a volunteer firefighter almost by accident.
His wife writes that one day in 1966, Bronson Specialities co-worker and volunteer firefighter Lyle Modert asked Stutzman to fill in for him for a weekend as he and his family went up north.
After Modert assured Stutzman that it was unlikely they would have a fire, the fire whistle was sounded that Saturday morning which started Stutzman’s 50 year career with the Bronson Fire Department.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber says an open house honoring Stutzman will be held on Saturday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Bronson Fire Station on South Matteson Street. A special presentation will take place at 4:00 p.m.
