JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – In high school wrestling Wednesday, Coldwater finished 7-0 in Interstate 8 dual meets as they defeated Jackson Northwest 36-20 and Hastings 60-12. The Cardinals can win the conference title with a strong performance at the I-8 conference meet they will host on February 4. The two wins also improved Coldwater’s overall record to 20-3.
Eight Cardinals won two matches on Wednesday night. They were Shihab Abdulrab at 103, Hamza Muflihi at 112, Faheem Abdullah at 125, Daniel Pino at 130, Griffen Olmstead at 160, Zach Miller at 171, Sam DeMeester at 189 and Zach Gipple at 215.
Zoe Nowicki won her only match of the night while Carter Hoard at 135, Ezra Lewis at 140 and Dillon Minton at 285 all went 1-1.
The Cardinals will host the Coldwater J.V. tournament on Friday. The varsity squad will compete Saturday at Stevensville-Lakeshore.
The Bronson Vikings lost a pair of dual matches by three points on Wednesday night as they were defeated by Mendon 36-33 and by White Pigeon 42-39. Ben Modert at 103, Jacob Butters at 140, Issac Robertson at 152, David Erwin at 171, Cole Houtz at 189 and Chase Gibson at 215 all won two matches for the Vikings.
Quincy won a pair of matches during a Big 8 quad meet they hosted on Wednesday night. The Orioles defeated Branch County rival Union City 48-36 and Athens 54-21. The Chargers were also beaten by Jonesville 48-28.
