COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – This Friday will be the longest day of the year.
The summer solstice falls on June 20, meaning we will see the most daylight of any day all year. On that day, the Earth will achieve its maximum tilt toward the sun, allowing for more hours of sunlight in the Northern Hemisphere and kicking off the summer months. Sunrise in Branch County will occur at 6:04 a.m. and set at 9:19 p.m.
The closer you get to the North Pole, the more extra sunlight you can enjoy. Residents in Fairbanks, Alaska, for instance, will see nearly 22 hours of daylight.
Temperatures will also feel summer like this weekend into next week with highs predicted to be 90 degrees or more through Tuesday of next week including a high of 94 degrees predicted for next Monday.
