COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The first step in possibly realigning the intersection of South Clay and Division Streets on Coldwater’s southside is underway.
Crews from Parrish Excavating tore down the former service station and auto repair building that had been vacant for a number of years.
The city paid $75,000 for just under four-tenths of an acre of property that had been owned by Decathlon Investments, LLC. City Manager Keith Baker says the purpose for the proposed purchase would be to realign the intersection to improve traffic safety and demolish the existing building to remove blight at the south entrance to the community.
The city’s engineering firm has created a design to ease traffic flow and eliminate confusion about turning vehicles at the intersection, but Baker says there is no firm cost estimate for reconfiguring the intersection.
