BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Lifetime Bronson residents Tony Hyska and Connie Rumsey were named King and Queen of the 55th Bronson Polish Festival during opening ceremonies Thursday night at the St. Mary’s Activity Center. Carter Sikorski and Sophia Reed were crowned Prince and Princess, while Camden Losinski and Brinley Losinski were named Junior Prince and Princess, respectively.
As usual, the announcement came as a surprise to honorees. It was especially surprising for Rumsey, who was in the middle of changing out of her Barbie Busia costume when she heard her name:
Rumsey, a.k.a. “Miss Tater,” is a regular participant in the Barbie Busia contest, which was won this year by “Miss Rosebud,” otherwise known as Robin Losinski.
Both Rumsey and Hyska will ride in Saturday’s parade. For Hyska, a longtime festival volunteer, it will be a different experience:
Kids Day activities are scheduled for Friday morning at Douglas Park. In addition, there will be a 5K race beginning Friday night at 6 p.m. at Bronson High School, and the annual fireworks display will begin at dusk. They were originally set to be launched from the grounds of Ryan Elementary School, but it was announced last Tuesday that they would be moved back to their traditional location at the high school:
