COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In front of an overflow Homecoming crowd at Cardinal Field, Coldwater picked up its first win against Jackson Northwest in four years, beating the Mounties 45-20.
The Cardinals scored in every quarter, notching 477 yards of total offense, while the defense held Northwest to 68 rushing yards and shut them out in the second and fourth quarters. Coldwater also had a +3 turnover ratio as Austin Fenningsdorf, Bennett McDonald, and Royale Fleming each intercepted Mountie quarterback Gabe Christner.
Cardinal quarterback Dracyn Foster had another outstanding game, going 14/18 for 225 yards, 4 touchdowns, and no picks while also rushing for 59 yards on 11 carries. McDonald finished with 4 receptions for 89 yards and a score, Evan Lewis had 5 catches for 77 yards and a touchdown, and Dayton Ennis added 3 receptions for 51 yards and a TD. Fleming led the ground game with 11 carries for 125 yards; he also had a 10-yard kickoff return and 2 receptions for 8 yards and a TD, putting him at 143 all-purpose yards. Naseem Taha had 15 carries for 66 yards and a touchdown, and Kayden Roby had a 1-yard TD run. Jackson Reilly led the defense with 12 tackles, Austin Stepp had 5, and Cooper Golematis notched 4 tackles and his first varsity sack.
With the win, Coldwater improved to 3-1 overall, 1-1 in the Interstate 8. They will play at Parma Western next Friday.
