COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two cases filed in recent months against a 19-year-old Athens woman involving child sex crimes have been bound over to Branch County Circuit Court.
Jayme Lynn LaPoint waived preliminary exams that were scheduled for Tuesday in Branch County District Court. Circuit Court pre-trial conferences have been scheduled for November 26, 2018.
She was originally charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct, child abusive commercial activity, using computers to commit a crime and distribution and promotion of child abusive commercial activity. Court documents indicate the alleged victim in the case was a two-year-old girl.
The alleged crimes took place in October 2017 while Lapoint was babysitting the youngster. Three counts were filed for her alleged use of a cell phone to send video to her husband of the sex acts.
Lapoint’s arrest led to further investigations by the Michigan State Police. She and three other suspects were later arrested and charged in Branch County by Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette for allegedly conspiring to kidnap, sexually abuse and kill a child.
All four defendants are being held on $5 million bonds.
