PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – Cross country teams from Legg, Quincy, and Union City Middle Schools ran at the MHSAA Middle School Zone 1 Regional meet Saturday at Portage West Middle School.
Quincy and Union City were in the Small Schools Division, and the Orioles finished second in the girls race with 81 points. Bailey Porter was 10th, Lauren Tappenden 11th, Brittany Hemker 20th, Molly Tappenden 21st, and Vivian King 22nd. The Chargers didn’t have a team score; Lily Alden was 32nd and Lauren VanKampen 34th. Neither Quincy nor Union City had a team score in the boys race. For the Orioles, Liam Willson was 19th, Nolan King 24th, Jack Miller 53rd, and Hunter Martin 55th. And for the Chargers, Eddie Connelly was 38th, Parker Mathis 39th, Klayton Hensel 46th, and Tim Cancino 52nd.
The LMS squads ran in the Large Schools Division. The girls were 12th with 369 points, with Ellie Aughenbaugh placing 64th, Mya McBride 79th, Madelyn Chamberlain 80th, Savannah Davenport 110th, and Sydney Lawrence 112th. The Cardinal boys finished 16th with 453 points; Jack Wright was 81st, Alex Wagoner 89th, Henry McCall 128th, Dakota Zachrich 131st, and Xavier Aburto 139th. According to head coach Emily Foulk, ten LMS runners ran their personal best time at the Regional, while one ran a season’s best time.
