COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Drawing on the long tradition of the “Scouting for Food” drive, Branch County scouts are once again leading the effort to combat local hunger.
As part of a nationwide initiative by Scouting America, Cub Scout Pack 433, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Coldwater will be asking their neighbors for donations of non-perishable food items.
The event teaches scouts the value of community service and living out the promise “to help other people at all times”. This grassroots campaign not only directly helps local residents but also strengthens community bonds by bringing people together to support their neighbors in need.
The food drive typically operates over two consecutive weekends. tomorrow , scouts distribute door hangers or flyers in neighborhoods to announce the upcoming collection. On Saturday November 8th, they return to pick up the bags filled with canned goods, pasta, cereal, and other shelf-stable items left on doorsteps by generous community members.
The collected food is then delivered to local food banks and pantries, such as the Branch Area Food Pantry, where it is sorted and distributed to individuals and families struggling with food insecurity.
The annual drive provides vital resources to local food assistance programs, and residents are encouraged to participate to help make a tangible difference in the lives of their fellow community. members.
