COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There are indications turnout records will be shattered in next Tuesday’s mid-term election.
Michigan voters will vote on three ballot proposals as well as races for Governor and the U.S. Senate.
That combined with the heated and divisive political atmosphere around the country these days will probably lead to long lines at some polling locations.
One of the big indications about the turnout is the requests for absentee ballots. More and more voters have been taking advantage of early voting in recent years.
Coldwater City Clerk Susan Heath says over 750 absentee ballots from city residents have already been turned in which is the most they have ever received for a mid-term election.
With time running out, Heath is urging those who have taken out an absentee ballot through the city to return them as soon as possible if they have not done so yet.
The last mid-term election in 2014 saw a 35.9 percent turnout of Branch County registered voters. That was down from the 41.3 percent turnout of registered voters in Branch County for the 2010 mid-term election.
