QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy Township voters will be asked next Tuesday to approve a levy of 1.25 mills for 10 years which would be used for police protection. The levy would raise over $150,000 in the first year.
Quincy Police Chief Jeremy Burch says the millage will allow his department to expand their coverage and hire two full time officers who would be on the road next spring. It would bring the number of full time officers for the Quincy Police Department up to five.
Burch says the Village has a contract with the Township which allows his officers to handle civil and criminal complaints in the Township but they have to limit their patrols to the Village.
Quincy Township voters were split on a pair of ten year levies of 1.25 mills for police and fire protection last November.
They turned down the police protection millage 291-274 but approved the fire protection millage 316-249.
