STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – You can add Sturgis to the list of schools looking to place a bond on the May ballot.
The Sturgis Board of Education voted unanimously this week to place a bond proposal on the May ballot.
The proposed bond would fund a wide array of capital improvements, safety upgrades, and facility renovations across the district, all without increasing the current millage tax rate for property owners. The plan involves extending the existing 7-mill rate, which is set to decrease as a previous bond is paid off, through the year 2058.
If approved by voters, the bond would support numerous projects, including making all buildings compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), installing secure entry vestibules and classroom thumb-turn locks, and renovating classrooms and bathrooms.
The proposal, developed from extensive community engagement sessions, also includes updates to athletic facilities, such as new track and field areas, soccer locker rooms and grandstands, turf upgrades for baseball and softball fields, and a new aquatic center.
