COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) –A winter storm is expected to bring accumulating snow to Branch County and surrounding areas this weekend leading the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Storm Watch from 4:00 a.m. Saturday, until 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
While much of Michigan is currently dealing with a separate Thanksgiving week storm, forecasters are monitoring a new system for the weekend. Early projections indicate this new storm could bring a general swath of 4 to 8 inches of snow across much of Lower Michigan, including Branch County.
The NWS advises residents to monitor forecasts closely as the storm’s track becomes clearer.
The developing weekend weather event for Saturday and Sunday, is expected to produce steady, widespread snowfall across the region. This could result in challenging travel conditions as winds of around 30-40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph could lead to blowing and drifting snow, potentially causing sudden whiteout conditions on roads and possible power outages.
The NWS encourages residents to be prepared for the possibility of very difficult travel and to adjust plans accordingly.
