COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A 64-year-old Coldwater man is facing up to life in prison following his arraignment Tuesday on multiple Felony Counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC) in Branch County District Court.
Richard Eugene Gump, was arraigned Tuesday, in Branch County 3A District Court before Judge Brent R. Weigle, facing multiple felony counts of criminal sexual conduct involving minors.
The charges stem from an investigation initiated by the Coldwater Police Department, with the alleged incidents occurring between October 1, 2023, and January 11, 2024.
Gump stands charged with one count of CSC First Degree and two counts of CSC Second Degree, with court documents specifying the victims as children under the age of 13.
Given Gump’s alleged prior conviction for a similar offense in 2002, he is facing enhanced penalties that could include life imprisonment without parole upon conviction.
Judge Weigle set bond at $750,000 cash/surety and issued strict no-contact orders regarding the alleged victims and any minor under the age of 18.
A Probable Cause Hearing is scheduled for December 11, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.
A Preliminary Examination was scheduled for December 17, 2025.
