STEUBEN COUNTY, IN (WTVB) A fire early Friday morning destroyed a barn in rual Steuben County.
The blaze broke out around 4:30 a.m. in the 4000 block of E. Metz Road, resulting in an estimated $110,000 in damage and loss.
Initial reports from first arriving units indicated a 30 x 30 barn was already fully engulfed and experiencing collapse. The fire’s official cause remains undetermined.
Due to the location being in a rural area, a substantial mutual aid response was requested for both tankers and manpower from surrounding departments including Ashley, Fremont, Hamilton, Metz, and Steuben Township Fire Departments, as well as the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and Steuben County EMS.
The Angola Police Department and Indiana State Police also provided assistance. After the main fire suppression efforts were completed, crews remained on site for several hours to conduct overhaul operations and wet down remaining hot spots, finally clearing the scene a little before 7:00 a.m.
The barn was noted to have housed machinery and equipment. There were no reported injuries.
