COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Residents of Branch County should prepare for a slick and snowy end to 2025 as a secondary cold front sweeps across southern Michigan on New Year’s Eve.
Following the high-impact storm earlier this week that brought wind gusts up to 50 mph and bitter temperatures, another round of lake-effect snow is forecasted to develop after lunchtime Wednesday.
Forecasters expect snow showers to pick up in intensity throughout Wednesday afternoon and evening. Daytime highs will struggle to reach the mid to upper 20’s with steady westerly winds near 20 mph.
As the clock strikes midnight to welcome in the new year, temperatures are expected to plummet into the mid-teens, with wind chills potentially dropping near zero.
An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible by New Year’s Day morning, enough to create hazardous driving conditions.
The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that while the total accumulation may not be all that impressive, the combination of sub-freezing temperatures and new snowfall will likely result in slick or snow-covered roads.
Those planning to attend celebrations in Coldwater or surrounding areas are urged to use extreme caution.
