CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Authorities in Calhoun County have arrested and charged 36-year-old Dylan Hall with first-degree home invasion and animal torture after he allegedly broke into his brother’s residence and shot his dog.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office took Hall into custody on January 21, 2026, just one day after he went missing following a suspicious fire at his own home in Steuben County that resulted in the death of his own pet.
Court records indicate that Hall allegedly used a rifle to shoot his brother’s dog, Luna, in the snout, but the weapon malfunctioned, allowing the animal to survive the attack.
The arrest follows a search by The Steuben County Sherriff’s Department who were unable to locate Hall after the January 20 blaze, which they suspect was intentionally set. A family member says they have long feared Hall due to unaddressed mental health struggles and expressed concern over the $2,500 bond set by the court.
While Luna is currently recovering under veterinary care in Kalamazoo, the investigation into the Indiana house fire remains ongoing as officials work to determine Hall’s potential involvement.
