FREDONIA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control officers seized three dogs from a residence in the 14,000 block of A Drive South in Fredonia Township on Tuesday.
The seizure followed a search warrant executed around 2:00 p.m. after an initial investigation into the death of a dog at the property on Monday.
During that first visit, officials observed concerning living conditions for the remaining animals, which provided the grounds for the subsequent search and rescue.
The three dogs are currently in protective custody and are expected to undergo veterinary evaluations.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that the investigation into animal neglect remains ongoing, and charges will be sought against both the homeowner and the dog owners once the case is reviewed by the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities have not released further details at this time, though they encourage anyone with additional information to contact Calhoun County Animal Control or provide anonymous tips via Silent Observer.
