HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – Hillsdale Hospital has officially opened applications for the 2026 Doris Whorley Nursing Scholarship, a program offering high school seniors up to $50,000 in tuition assistance—distributed as $10,000 annually for up to five years.
Formerly known as the Future of Nursing scholarship, the award supports students pursuing an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Prospective nurses must apply through Hillsdale Hospital’s education portal by submitting a completed form, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and two essays by the April 1 deadline at 4 p.m.
The scholarship was renamed to honor Doris Whorley, RN, who plans to retire in 2026 after a historic 57-year career at the hospital. Whorley has served in numerous capacities, including Director of Nursing and Emergency Nurse, and currently acts as the Director of Risk Management. President and CEO Jeremiah J. Hodshire praised Whorley’s “unmatched legacy” and devotion to the community.
Following an interview process for selected applicants, the hospital will announce the 2026 awardees in May. For more information, students can contact Bree Barrows, Education Coordinator, at (517) 437-5247.
