Charles J. English, Sr., 86, of Colon passed away Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne, IN.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place, with a committal service at Fort Custer National Cemetery to be held at a later date along with a celebration of life for he and his wife, Andrea English, to be held at the Colon American Legion.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
He was born February 15, 1940 in Battle Creek, MI, the son of Charles and Margaret (Parrish) English. Charles proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army, an experience he carried with pride throughout his life.
C.J. began his career with Bronson Plating, where he worked his way into a foreman position, but would later retire after many years as a truck driver. August 16, 1980, he married Andrea Coffey in Coldwater, and together they shared many years of love and companionship. She preceded him in death February 13, 2026.
Charles was a devoted member of the Coldwater Elks and the Battle Creek Elks, where he also served as a trustee, as well as the Colon American Legion. C.J. had a deep love for the outdoors and was happiest fishing, hunting, camping, or traveling. He enjoyed spending time at the poker table and was a loyal NASCAR fan.
Charles will be remembered for his quiet strength, his dedication to family, and the simple joys that brought him happiness. His presence will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
C.J. leaves behind his daughter Shirely (Tony Miller) English of New Orleans, LA; his stepchildren Eric (Shelley) Krall of Mishawaka, IN, Melissa (Shaun) Clark of Bronson; his brother Bill (Joan) Lucas; his grandchildren Charlie, Austin, Sarah, Alex, Megan, Brandon, and Jesse; his 8 great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife Andrea English, Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his infant daughter, his son Charlie English, Jr., and his grandson Zachary English.
