COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -A Bronson man is facing a potential life sentence following a multi-agency narcotics raid on Weaver Road last Friday.
52-year-old Rodney Allen Ferguson, was taken into custody last Friday, after the Branch County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Joseph Valley Special Response Team executed a search warrant at his residence, during the execution of the search warrant, the following items were located in Ferguson’s bedroom: a baggie with residue, pipe with residue and container with meth, 274 grams of meth in a gallon-size bag located in the black safe, tapped cash ($600) in the safe with the meth, narcotic packaging, scales with residue and other baggies with meth and residue, as well as a ledger with drug sales, ID cards for Ferguson in the black safe, and surveillance cameras.
The raid was the culmination of a month-long investigation led by Sergeant Paulino Hernandez, which utilized surveillance and multiple traffic stops to link Ferguson’s home to the local distribution of methamphetamine.
Ferguson has been charged with four counts, including delivery and manufacture of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a narcotic (psilocybin), and maintaining a drug house. During an interview with investigators, Ferguson reportedly admitted that the illegal substances were located in the basement of the home. Due to a criminal history that includes prior felony convictions in Florida and Kentucky, Ferguson is being charged as a fourth-offense habitual offender, which significantly increases his maximum sentencing exposure.
During his arraignment in the 3-A District Court, Judge Brent R. Weigle set Ferguson’s bond at $100,000 cash or surety. As conditions of his release, Ferguson is prohibited from leaving the state of Michigan without court permission and must submit to random drug testing.
A co-defendant, 32-year-old Starr Lea Overton, was also taken into custody during the raid and charged with possession of methamphetamine . Ferguson is scheduled to appear for a pre-trial conference on April 7, followed by a preliminary examination on April 14.
