Stephen Ray “Steve” Batterson, Sr., 74, of Union City passed away Friday, March 20, 2026 at home under hospice care, surrounded by his loving family.
In keeping with Steve’s wishes, he will be cremated and a memorial service celebrating his life will take place at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2026 at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation 1276 Tate Trail, Union City, MI.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 3:00-8:00 p.m., also at the Lighthouse.
Steve was born March 22, 1951 to Doris Oberhauser in East Leroy, Michigan. He graduated from Union City High School with the Class of 1971. May 17, 1975, he married Sandra Pifer at the Church of the Nazarene in Coldwater.
Steve worked for Union City Community Schools as custodian for many years. He was a member of the Union City Fire Department Auxiliary and Rotary Club of Union City, where he assisted with the maple syrup project each year.
Surviving Steve are his children, Stacy Zeball of Buchanan, Sara (Anthony McDonald) of Lima, OH, Stephen “Ray” Batterson, Jr. of Union City, adopted daughter, Rachael (Terrance Swan) Keller of Union City; grandchildren, Katie, Brianna, Amelia, Elijah, Patience, Josilynn, Annamea; great grandchild, Hazel; siblings, Robert Batterson, Sharon Batterson, Cheryl Curuso, Kathy Batterson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
