COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal baseball team improved to 3-3 overall and started out Interstate 8 play at 2-0 with a doubleheader sweep against Marshall at Lowe Field, 10-1 and 12-6.
In the first game, starting pitcher Owen Tappenden allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 3 walks with 8 strikeouts in 6 innings as he earned the win. Offensively, he helped his own cause with a solo homer in the third and a two-run shot in the sixth. Rylan Edwards and Kayden Roby each went 2-for-3, and Luke Stout drove in three runs.
The second game saw Tappenden smash a solo homer in the first and a three-run blast in the third as part of a five-run barrage in the stanza. He finished 3-for-4 in the game, while Roby with 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs and Logan Turner went 3-for-4 with a double. Dayton Ennis got the win in relief of starter Rylan Edwards.
Coldwater will face Cadillac, Three Rivers, and Niles Brandywine on Saturday as part of the Pat Lowe Memorial Invitational.
ADDISON, MI – JJ Wright’s three-run double in the top of the ninth inning lifted Quincy to a 12-9 victory at Addison in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. The scheduled nightcap was called due to lightning just one batter in.
Wright finished 4-for-6 with two doubles, Kale Dirschell went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs, and Seth Van Stelle added a double. Bryson Estlow, Christian Craven, Cobee Stevens, and Ethan Drumm had two hits apiece as the Orioles collected 16 hits total. Quincy used seven pitchers to get through the game; JJ Wright, the sixth pitcher used, earned the victory.
The Orioles will take a 2-1-1 record into their doubleheader Friday at Springport.
