Margarette Bassage, 85, of Coldwater, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Coldwater with Pastor Dan Erwin officiating. A gathering of family and friends will take place prior to the service from 10-11:00 AM. Interment of Ashes will take place at California Corners Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Margarette was born on January 31, 1940, in Bryan, Texas, to Richard and Antonette (Kronenberger) Selleh. She shared her first marriage and the birth of her children with George Groholski. On February 10, 1979, she married the love of her life, Buster “Buss” Bassage in Coldwater, MI, he preceded her in death on January 21, 2020, after more than 40 years of marriage. A woman of deep faith and service, Margarette was a very active and dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Coldwater. She was a longtime member of the Martha Circle and generously shared her talents by catering many church events over the years. Her servant’s heart extended beyond the church walls as she volunteered her time at local food pantries, always willing to help those in need. Margarette was the past president of the Branch Area Garden Club and, along with her husband Buss, was a member of the Branch Area Antique Auto Club. She took great pride in her many hobbies, finding joy and comfort in sewing, cooking, and tending to her garden activities that reflected her creativity, patience, and love for others. Margarette will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to her community, and the quiet grace with which she lived her life. Her legacy of service and love will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
Margarette leaves behind her son David Groholski of Fort Wayne, IN; her step-son Christopher (Vicki) Bassage of Coldwater; her daughters-in-law Lori Groholski of Coldwater; Pam Bassage of Reading, her sister Therese Brocious of Fall Brook, CA; her grandchildren Lindsey (Nizar) Idrissi, Elise (Mike) Marsh, Dana (Tre) Snow, Keely Groholski, Corey (Alison) Bassage, Nick (Elizabeth) Bassage, Alex Bassage, Kelsi (Trent) Morrill, Travis Bassage, Kenni Bassage; her 11 great grandchildren; and her many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Buster Bassage, she was preceded in death by her children Karen Groholski and Steven Groholski, her step-son Dan Bassage, and her siblings Gloria Jo Farek and Richard Selleh.
