KENT COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – A 19-month-old girl died Tuesday following a single-vehicle crash on westbound I-96 in Lowell Township, Michigan. According to Michigan State Police, a 41-year-old woman from Lansing was driving a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup in an “erratic manner” at a high speed when the vehicle veered from the median to the shoulder and slammed into a cluster of trees.
Emergency responders discovered the toddler with severe injuries and initiated life-saving measures, but she was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The driver was also hospitalized with minor injuries and is expected to survive. State troopers currently suspect that alcohol or drugs may have been contributing factors in the fatal incident.
The investigation remains active as authorities wait for toxicology results to determine if criminal charges will be filed.
