PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – Southern Michigan Bank & Trust (SMBT) has announced plans to expand its presence in the Portage and Kalamazoo markets with a new full-service banking office located at 3900 West Centre Avenue.
Partnering with AVB, the bank is currently renovating the Woodbridge Hills facility, which is scheduled to open to the public in the first quarter of 2027.
The strategic location is designed to complement SMBT’s existing Portage branch at the corner of Kilgore and Westnedge, enhancing accessibility and convenience for personal, business, and wealth management clients across the region.
The upcoming branch will offer a comprehensive suite of banking amenities, including a full-service retail office, two drive-thru lanes, and a dedicated lane featuring an ATM/Personal Teller Machine (PTM) alongside night depository services.
The building will also house professional office spaces for branch staff, commercial lenders, wealth management advisors, treasury management, and municipal banking teams.
SMBT President and CEO John Waldron says that this expansion reinforces the bank’s 150-year history of community investment, with additional details regarding staffing and official grand opening dates to be shared as construction progresses.
