COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater split a pair of tightly contested baseball games Tuesday at Lowe Field against Harper Creek. The Beavers took the opener 5-2, while the Cardinals won the nightcap 5-3.
In the first game, Harper Creek ace Tristan Johnson held Coldwater to two runs on five hits with a walk and nine strikeouts. Kayden Roby hit an RBI double, and Royale Fleming went 2-for-4.
The bats awakened for Coldwater in the second game. The Cards scored three runs in the first and added insurance runs in the second and fifth as they tallied eleven hits total. Fleming was 2-for-4, Dayton Ennis went 3-for-3, and Luke Stout was 2-for-2. Owen Tappenden hit his eighth home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth, and finished 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs. Starting pitcher Rylan Edwards earned the win.
Coldwater is now 8-11 overall and 4-4 in the Interstate 8. They will host Vicksburg for a single game Thursday night at 6 p.m.

STOCKBRIDGE, MI – Bronson improved to 12-7 overall and 6-4 in the Big 8 with a doubleheader sweep at Stockbridge, 12-1 in six innings and 15-0 in three innings.
In the opener, leadoff hitter Max Byler went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, and 2 RBIs. Reid Stukey and Joe Fair drove in two runs apiece, and Carter Sikorski and Graham Kriser each doubled. Fair allowed one run on five hits with no walks and nine strikeouts in the complete game victory.
The nightcap saw Warner Wotta throw a three-inning one-hitter with a walk and six strikeouts. Fair went 3-for-3, and Rylan Fincham was 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs.
The Vikings will entertain Schoolcraft on Thursday.
VERMONTVILLE, MI – Quincy took the opener of their doubleheader at Maple Valley 10-6. The nightcap ended in a 5-5 tie after seven innings due to darkness.
In the first game, Cobee Stevens gave up five hits and struck out four in four innings to pick up the win, while Joe Gray earned the save. Carson Craven was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, JJ Wright went 3-for-5 with a triple and drove in three runs, and Bryson Estlow was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.
Estlow was 2-for-4 in the second game with two RBIs, and Seth VanStelle went 2-for-4 with a double.
The Orioles are now 9-8-2 overall and 4-5-1 in the Big 8. They will play at Plainwell on Friday.
UNION CITY, MI – Union City improved to 10-8 overall and 6-4 in the Big 8 as they swept Reading at Alumni Field, 11-0 in five innings and 11-2.
Nolan Chard threw a five-inning no-hitter in the first game, walking two and striking out seven. Chard also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and 3 RBIs. Simon Swartzle was also 2-for-3 with a double and drove in a run, while Mitchell Graham went 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs as the Chargers collected 15 hits.
Union City had 13 hits in the second game, only one of which went for extra bases: Graham went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBIs. Swartzle was 3-for-4 and drove in two runs, and Cullen Decker went 2-for-3. Carson Liles started and picked up the win, walking two and striking out seven in three innings of work; he was also 2-for-4 at the plate.
The Chargers are back in action Friday at Homer.
