COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – School bond issues in both the Coldwater and Quincy Community School Districts were soundly defeated on Tuesday.
Voters in Coldwater rejected the districts $64 million dollar bond that would have been used for major upgrades to Coldwater High School by a 55.6 % margin 2,104 – 1,677, it marked the third time voters have turned down a purposed bond by the district in the last five years.
The proposal was rejected in all but two of fourteen precincts.
Meanwhile in Quincy voters overwhelmingly rejected a $60 million bond proposal by a 70.5% margin with 1076 no votes and just 450 in favor of. That would have funded renovations to existing facilities and demolished the century-old middle school, replacing it with a new academic wing at the high school to consolidate operations and improve efficiency.
Voters in the Colon did approve renewal of the districts sinking fund by a count of 525 in favor and 323 voting no.
Voters in the Reading School district also approved a sinking fund millage replacement by a 324 – 282 margin.
In Branch County 5,512 of 25,653 eligible voters turned out on Tuesday that was 21.49%.
