ST JOSEPH, COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Frederick Nelson was sentenced on Friday to 40 to 60 months in prison for his role as an accessory after the fact in the 2024 suffocation death of two-year-old Octavia Bohne.
Prosecutors argued that following the child’s death, Nelson who was the boyfriend of the mother, Paige Bohne, urged her to delete incriminating text messages from their cell phones. While Nelson reached a plea deal on the accessory charge, Paige Bohne had previously been sentenced in December 2025 to a minimum of 18 years and nine months for first-degree child abuse and assault.
The case gained significant attention after a viral video raised concerns about Nelson’s ability to receive a fair trial, ultimately leading to the plea agreement that focused on the digital evidence.
During the emotional sentencing hearing, Octavia’s grandmother directly confronted Nelson, stating that justice had not been served.
