COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Don’t look now, but the Coldwater Cardinal baseball team is now one game under .500 after sweeping a doubleheader from Hastings Tuesday at Lowe Field. The Cardinals shut out the Saxons in the opener 4-0 and took the nightcap 13-4 in four innings after play was halted due to field conditions.
In the first game, starter Finn Hanson allowed just two hits and struck out nine Saxon batters in 5-1/3 innings, and Dayton Ennis tossed 1-1/3 innings of no-hit relief with three strikeouts. At the plate, Ennis went 2-for-3 with a double, and Owen Tappenden hit his fourteenth homer of the season, a two-run shot.
The second game saw Coldwater score in every inning. Royale Fleming was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIS, Will Knowlan went 2-for-3 with a double, and Tappenden smacked an RBI double and a solo homer, his fifteenth. Matthew Hurley started and earned the win.

The Cardinals improved to 12-13 overall and 6-4 in the Interstate 8. They will complete a suspended doubleheader at Pennfield on Thursday.
CONCORD, MI – Bronson improved to 17-8 overall and 8-4 in the Big 8 following a pair of wins at Concord, 13-4 and 3-1 in five innings.
Starter Warner Wotta struck out eleven Yellow Jacket hitters in his five innings of work in the first game. Collin Webb was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI, and May Byler doubled and drove in two. Joe Fair and Ben Stevens added two hits apiece as part of an eleven-hit attack.
In the second game, Byler allowed one run on three hits with twelve strikeouts. Reid Stukey was 2-for-2 with a double, Rylan Fincham added a double, and Connor McClelland had an RBI single.
The Vikings will host Parma Western on Thursday.
HILLSDALE, MI – Quincy played Reading at Hillsdale College’s Lenda and Glenda Hill Stadium, and the Orioles made quick work of the Rangers, winning 24-2 in four innings and 14-3 in five innings.
Quincy put together a 16-hit attack in the opener. Bryson Estlow was 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs, Cobee Stevens went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, and JJ Wright was 3-for-5 with a double and drove in three runs. Stevens started and got the win, allowing two runs on two hits.
In the nightcap, Ethan Drumm drove in four runs on 2-for-3 hitting. Estlow was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, and JJ Wright and Seth VanStelle each went 3-for-4. Wright allowed two runs on two hits with seven strikeouts in his four-inning stint on the mound.
The Orioles improved to 12-9-2 overall and 6-5-1 in the Big 8. They will take part in the Al Glick Classic on Saturday, opening up against Columbia Central at East Jackson High School.
STOCKBRIDGE, MI – Union City improved to 16-8 overall and 8-4 in the Big 8 following a doubleheader sweep at Stockbridge, 8-4 and 19-3 in four innings.
Nolan Chard walked one and struck out thirteen in 5-2/3 innings to pick up the win in the first game; Simon Swartzle tossed 1-1/3 innings of no-hit ball with four strikeouts to earn the save. Cullen Decker was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Swartzle and Tucker Zweng each doubled.
The Chargers blew the second game wide open with twelve runs in the fourth. Swartzle was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs; he also earned the win in relief of starter Carson Liles by throwing two innings of no-hit ball. Decker went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs, Mitchell Graham was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBIs, and Lilies and Zweng each doubled.
Union City will travel to Mendon on Wednesday.
