KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo’s courts are gearing up a unique program to extend trauma care to jurors.
Hundreds of citizens are ordered to appear to serve jury duty in Kalamazoo County courts every year.
It can be more than just inconvenient, it can be disturbing.
Chief Circuit Court Judge Gary Giguere Jr. says sitting through certain trials can be a jarring experience for some.
He says exposure to horrific cases can be more than some professionals in law enforcement can handle. They already have counseling available if they need it.
Judge Giguere says they are just about to implement the new program and plan to collect data, see if it is working or could be improved.
He revealed plans for the new program at his annual presentation on the court system to the Kalamazoo County board last week.
