COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Louisiana man who was charged in April with nine counts following a series of break ins in Bronson and Noble Townships that authorities say took place over four years ago entered into a plea agreement Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
A court spokesperson says 21-year-old George Joseph Wharton entered guilty pleas to a pair of attempted second degree home invasion counts. In exchange, prosecutors will drop six counts of home invasion and three counts of safe breaking.
Wharton is scheduled to be sentenced August 27, 2018.
Wharton was arrested following an investigation by the Michigan State Police and the Branch County Sheriff’s Department.
Wharton was one of the suspects wanted by authorities in connection with five daylight residential burglaries April 15, 2014. Nobody was home in all of the break ins.
State Police said at the time that a large amount of coins were among the items taken.
The homes broken into were located along sections of Slisher, Pleasant Hill, Burr Oak, Prairie River and Douglas Roads.
