COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department and the Lakeland Fire Department had to get a two year old child out of a car Friday afternoon on Iyopawa Island Road after the girl accidentally locked herself inside.
Even though temperatures were only in the mid 70s, it was sunny and there were concerns the girl would become overheated.
Chief Deputy Keith Eichler said it took about a half hour for Sgt. Mike Gatke and Deputy Scott Jaye to unlock the vehicle and get the girl out. He said the child was hot but she did not require a trip to the hospital.
The rescue of the girl on Iyopawa Island follows a similar incident in Mottville last Thursday when a Michigan State Police trooper had to break out a window in order to get a two year old out of a locked vehicle in near 90 degree temperatures.
