COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The historic Little River Railroad is welcoming passengers back to the tracks this weekend, continuing its celebrated 50th anniversary season of passenger excursions.
Departing from the historic 1883 Coldwater Depot located at 29 West Park Avenue, the volunteer-run tourist railroad offers families a nostalgic journey through the scenic Branch County countryside.
Powered by century-old, antique steam locomotives like the famous Engine No. 110—the smallest standard-gauge Pacific-type steam locomotive ever constructed—the round-trip journeys travel from Coldwater to nearby Quincy. The excursions operate rain or shine, offering an immersive look at early American railroading.
The classic 1.5-hour weekend round-trip includes a comfortable 20-to-30-minute layover at Quincy Village Park, where passengers can stretch their legs and watch the historic locomotive switch tracks to guide the train back home. Prior to boarding, guests are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes early to explore the depot’s on-site museum exhibits.
This weekend’s seasonal operations set the stage for a busy summer schedule on the Little River Railroad Facebook Page, including the highly anticipated annual Father’s Day Special coming up in June. Tickets, schedules, and reservations can be managed online through the railroads official website https://littleriverrailroad.com/
