COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – For the second year in a row, sophomore pitcher Laynie VanAken was voted by her teammates Most Valuable Player for the Coldwater Cardinal softball team. The recognition came during their annual team banquet held Tuesday night at Bill’s Grill House at the Coldwater Golf Course.
Harper Morrill and Kendall Diamond were named Most Improved Players, while the Clutch Player of the Year went to Vandria Bucklin. Mya Porter and Ellerie Bucklin were named Teammates of the Year; Porter received the Golden Arm Award for defense, and Ellerie Bucklin won the Best Team Spirit award.
Coldwater finished with an overall record of 30-2. They won the outright Interstate 8 championship with an 11-1 league mark.
