COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater’s long time fire chief is quietly stepping into retirement.
Rich Sherman says August 3, 2018 will be his final day as Chief of the Coldwater Fire Department.
He has served the Coldwater Fire Department for 39 of his 45 years as a firefighter and has been the Coldwater Fire Chief since 1993.
The soon-to-be vacant position was posted on the city’s web site about a month ago after Sherman informed the city of his retirement plans. The position has a starting salary of between $75,000 and $85,000 and applicants have to live within 20 miles of Coldwater.
Sherman will be the second veteran fire department official to leave this year. Paul Dove resigned as Fire Marshal in April after he took a position with the State of Michigan’s Fire Marshal’s Office. Dove served as the Coldwater Fire Marshal for over 24 years.
Sherman says Dove’s position will be filled once a new fire chief is hired.
