LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Citizens Research Council of Michigan says the new state budget for Fiscal Year 2027 is at between $600-and-$900-million short of state funding.
State officials are disputing that claim and say the budget will balance and there are lapses that will return the shortfall.
CRC senior research associate Bob Schneider says they found a gap of $672-million between the appropriations and revenues gathered.
He says the state has nearly $500-million in the Strategic Outreach and Attraction Reserve, or SOAR, Fund that could address the gap.
Governor Whitmer’s office says implications that the budget is not balanced “are simply false.”
