COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit has issued an order blocking the Trump administration’s immediate termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals that was set to expire today, providing another tempoary reprieve to 350,000 immigrants nationwide and local families within Coldwater’s Haitian community.
The administration had pushed to lift a lower court stay and completely revoke deportations and work permits, but the three-judge appellate panel denied the emergency motion, ruling that the legal protections cannot be dissolved before Monday July 27.
While the three-day procedural delay simply waits for the formal return of the case from the Supreme Court, it prevents an estimated 500 Coldwater Haitians from suddenly losing their lawful status, offering temporary relief as they brace for the next steps in the fluid federal court battle.
