COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan State Police conducted a highly visible, five-hour “Move Over” law enforcement initiative that resulted in 798 traffic stops statewide.
Operating between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday, state troopers and motor carrier officers specifically monitored highways for motorists failing to provide space for stationary emergency and road service vehicles.
The targeted operation led directly to 127 citations specifically for Move Over violations, alongside 134 speeding violations, 19 texting infractions, and dozens of other dangerous driving citations.
MSP emphasized prior to the enforcement blitz that every traffic stop represents a preventable risk to first responders, noting a recent surge in danger after at least 13 patrol vehicles were struck on roadways earlier this year.
Violators caught ignoring the safety mandate face a civil infraction, a $400 fine, and two points added to their driving records.
