COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a bid of just over $32,000 from Kuhn Specialty Flooring on Monday night so that a maintenance coating can be applied to the flooring at the Doctor Browne Recreation Center.
Community Enrichment Director Julie Santure said in her memo to the Council that the wooden floor was completely refinished in 2025 and over the past two weeks the multipurpose floor and track were resurfaced as approved by the council last year.
She added that to be fiscally cautious, it was decided at the time to not use a clear coat sealer when the floor was resurfaced. However, while not required by the manufacturer, after seeing the finished project and upon further consideration Santure said the staff recommended having a maintenance clear coat applied that would further protect the finished floor from daily wear and use and be more cost effective over the long run
Santure said the maintenance coat will require a day to install and three days to cure. The product would be ordered on Tuesday for installation the following week while the recreation center is still closed.
Kuhn Specialty Flooring is already on site for the installation of the new floor surface. They also installed the original floor in 2015.
