COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Families enrolled in Michigan’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) can now use their benefits to shop online at Meijer.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announced a partnership making Meijer the very first retailer in the state to accept WIC payments for digital orders via Meijer.com and the Meijer mobile app.
The newly launched service is active across all 122 Meijer locations in Michigan, allowing approximately 190,000 participants to select between curbside pickup or home delivery.
To further alleviate barriers for busy families, Meijer is offering free home delivery for WIC orders, while standard curbside pickup remains free for any orders totaling $35 or more.
The program expansion was made possible through federal funding from the 2023 WIC Modernization Grant, alongside technical collaboration with the eWIC processor Fidelity National Information Services / Central Data Processing.
Customers using the platform can link their WIC EBT cards directly to their Meijer accounts, automatically isolating eligible healthy foods to secure the lowest possible out-of-pocket costs.
State officials have noted that while Meijer is the first to debut this accessibility feature, Michigan WIC actively plans to expand online benefit capabilities to additional retail grocers in the near future.
