Margaret Lee “Peggy” Watson, 86, of Sherwood, Michigan passed away Friday, August 14, 2026 at The Laurels of Bedford.
In keeping with Peggy’s wishes, she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2026 at the United Methodist Church, 32 W. Chicago Street, Quincy, MI.
Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m. also at the church. A luncheon will follow the service, also at the church. Peggy will be laid to rest privately at North Fulton Cemetery in Wakeshma Township, Michigan.
Peggy was born September 17, 1939 in Coldwater, Michigan. She grew up in Sherwood with her mother, Margaret Catherman, but moved to Quincy at the age of 8 and lived with her foster parents, Nellie and Vaughn Corless. She graduated from Quincy High School in 1957 and went on to airline school in St. Louis, MO for stewardess training. She continued to live in Quincy to the age of 25 and then moved back to Sherwood.
For a short time, Peggy worked at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., but later landed a job at the Federal Center in Battle Creek doing clerical work. She worked there for more than 30 years and retired in 1996.
Peggy had the gift of gab. She would spend hours going from house to house just visiting and catching up. She was very busy, always volunteering somewhere. She helped run the radio at the Sherwood Fire Station (it was next door to her house), was active in the Sherwood Forest Days, and helped at the Reading UMC Thrift Store. She was also an active member at the United Methodist Church in Quincy.
Her family will remember her as a feisty, firm, and sometimes strict but loving sister and aunt. They all knew that they were loved because spending time with her family was important to her.
Peggy is survived by her siblings, Betty (Jack) Coppess of Nashville, MI, Philip (Jackie) Watson of Burlington, and Alfred (Ilene) Watson of Battle Creek; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Rambadt; her foster parents, Nellie and Vaughn Corless; her brother, Vern Watson; her sister, Phyllis Craven; her foster sister, Phyllis Corless; and her foster brother, Harold (Myrna) Corless.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the United Methodist Church, 32 W. Chicago Street, Quincy, MI 49082 or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
